Self-taught artist Victoria Milne, also known as Enigmachick, explores and expresses her ideas, emotions, and observations through the tactile process of sculpting. Drawing inspiration from a wide array of sources, her creative practice oscillates between spontaneous play and meticulous planning. In moments of intuitive creation, she immerses herself in the textures and shapes of found objects and scrap materials, often starting with discarded pieces in her studio, letting the work evolve organically. In contrast, some of her projects emerge from months—or even years—of careful design and intention.
Throughout her life she enjoyed making and fixing things. Writing was her outlet for self-expression but when she took a welding class she found the perfect medium with which to satisfy both her need to use her hands and the desire to express her inner world and external observations. A strong interest in contrast and fluidity is evident in her work. Using hard, sharp materials she creates soft, curvaceous abstract forms such as in her work with jagged metals, nails and fish hooks from which come waves, flowers or concepts of identity and personality.
Since taking a metal sculpting class at the Silvermine Arts Guild, she has developed a distinguished career in sculpture, completing three residencies at the Steel Yard in Providence, RI, where she received a Merit Award in 2017. Her work has earned recognition in numerous exhibitions, including the 2022 Summer Sculpture Showcase at Studio 80 + Sculpture Grounds in Old Lyme, CT, and the 2024 exhibition at the Carrollwood Art Center in Carrollwood, FL. She has exhibited in juried shows such as the 32nd and 35th All Florida Exhibition at the Alliance for the Arts in Fort Myers, FL; ArtFields (2020 and 2022) in Lake City, SC; multiple exhibitions at ArtsXchange and Five Deuces Gallery in St. Petersburg, FL; and galleries across Connecticut and Rhode Island. In addition to her own artistic practice, she has worked as a fabrication assistant for Studio 80 + Sculpture Grounds in Old Lyme, CT. Her sculptures are held in private collections in Berlin, Barcelona, New York, and Hartford.
